On most planes, passengers barely notice pre-flight safety videos. On Air New Zealand, those videos go viral. Tod made a name for his airline with memorable safety videos featuring the likes of Richard Simmons, Bear Grylls and The Hobbit. Tod justifies the airline’s unorthodox approach: “Being safe is not going to attract attention, and we’re willing to take some risks.” A video with rapper Snoop Dogg was viewed 500,000 times on You Tube, while a video with an unknown talent – but with racier content – has been seen more than 6.5 million times.

Tod came to Air New Zealand in 2003 as Corporate Communications Manager and has moved steadily through the ranks to Chief Marketing & Customer Officer, responsible for Customer Experience and also accountable for Government Affairs and Industry Relations. He was previously an executive at Fonterra and has worked with Television New Zealand.
