Carl Shepherd

Co-founder and Chief Strategy and Development Officer

Chief Strategy and Development Officer Carl Shepherd co-founded HomeAway with CEO Brian Sharples in 2005. The company’s acquisitions — including in 2006 and nearly two dozen others — have underpinned global expansion. Shepherd still sees plenty of room for growth in the vacation-home rental business. “HomeAway’s overriding vision is global and it is that vacation rentals supplant hotels as the preferred choice for family and group travel worldwide,” he tells Web In Travel. “With this lofty vision comes the understanding it will take the vision will take years to achieve.”

Before HomeAway, Shepherd was the chief operating officer of Hoover’s for nearly six years, leaving the business-research company in 2003. Prior to that, his background was notably diverse and included positions with app-maker Human Code, Texas Monthly magazine, and Andersen Consulting.
